Turkish Airlines celebrated their 10th year of flying to Cape Town with a beautiful gala dinner at Century Conference Centre. Hosted by Dr Michael Mol, there was delishish food, lots of laughs, a live local Cape Town Jazz band and live demonstration by Turkish Folk Dances. There were also 2 Turkish flight giveaways to attendees! Top Billing was there and showed a wonderful clip celebrating the beauty of Istanbul. Zombies have taken over!!

Cape Town is overrun with ZOMBIES! People of all ages and races became the ‘walking dead’ and groaned as they dragged themselves in search of brains through town in unity. Money raised goes to charity and an after party that could raise the dead followed. I was amazed at the effort taken by the ‘walkers’ and the creativity, even getting families involved in search of fresh meat together. This annual Zombie Walk is here to stay… at least till the headshot

Stormers 2014 Adidas Amazing Race Jersey Launch

After photographing the legendary Stormers in Studio (can see some pics HERE), as part of the launch activation for the 2014 Adidas Stormers Jersey, we set out on an ‘amazing race’. Three teams consisting each of a Stormers player, a SA personality and a Stormers fan, raced across Cape Town to be the team to unlock the new 2014 Stormers rugby kit. Competing in a challenge at Newlands Stadium the teams had to convert three kicks and learn a synchronised dance taught by the lovely DHL dancers. From there they ran on foot to SACS High School where again the race was to complete a rugby quiz in a classroom and a running drill on the field where the players were met with young fans searching for autographs by their heroes. From SACS the teams were off to UCT to face paint the Adidas and Stormers logos from memory and do another running drill – as you can imagine they were pretty tired at this point. The final destination was the V&A Waterfront where they searched for clues to the combination that would eventually open the locker in the Adidas store revealing the new kit. It was a nail biting day and everyone really enjoyed the race, and the bottom line – the new kit is awesome! Go Stormers!

Jaymee’s Sweet 16

‘Sweet 16’ a birthday most girls don’t forget. Jaymee’s mom got hold of me through a client I had previously photographed, Rochelle Hendricks, a beautiful bride and a talented fashion designer whose collection I also photographed. You can find there engagement shoot HERE and their wedding HERE. After an impromptu house celebration for Jaymee with friends, the limo arrived. Over a dozen excited girls pilled into the limo and we were off to party at the Fire & Ice Hotel. After checking out the themed bathrooms and elevators they settled down to a tasty meal. Another great evening and great memories.

Dance for Natalie Fundraiser

Natalies Story:

Natalie (13 years old) was diagnosed with a very rare form of spinal cancer called Chordoma at the beginning of 2011 when she was just 10.

There was no medical help for her in South Africa, so the family went to Boston for treatment for Natalie where she had several surgeries. The top line of her story is that they removed almost half of her thorasic spine. Natalie was seen as a medical miracle and the family returned to South Africa in October 2011.

Unfortunately, everything went south in April 2012. The family went back to Boston where Natalie had further surgery, however, the fantastic doctors at Mass General Hospital were not able to clear all the tumor. Since August last year, Natalie has been in palliative care, which is care for comfort and not for a cure.

Natalie has a phenomenal ability to overcome immense obstacles despite her limitations. She has inspired an active and diverse global network of people who hold her with love in their hearts. She has changed many lives and has inspired so many to live their lives with compassionate joy.

To learn more about her story, there is an awesome website which you can visit – www.nataliescircleoflove.org

A weekend away with friends at Beaverlac

All work and no play makes Flash Poets in need of a weekend away… and cue the breathtaking Beaverlac!

A couple hours from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town, where cell reception is a swear word and where the silence of nature is deafening, this was the world we entered into with great friends. Hiking, swimming and campfires made for an awesome outdoor getaway. Of course the camera was one of us, but didn’t quite relax as much as we did…
